Melaka has some of the most beautiful streets I have ever seen! Walking along the river you get to see the artistic design behind Melaka. It is a town full of colour and expression, whether a unique combination of colours that give you a picasso esque vibe or a beautiful mural depicting part of Malaysian culture.

I may have mentioned that I studied Islamic history in University and in one of my classes, my professor talked about the migration of Islam to the Malay peninsula and Indonesia. She mentioned this town called Melaka (Malacca) and the Melaka strait, how it was a prime trading post and that it was colonized by the Portuguese and the Dutch.

I really wanted to visit the Masjid Jemak as it is one of the oldest mosques in Kuala Lumpur and I love history and architecture, but alas it was under construction and only open to worshippers. On my second day in Malaysia I hopped on the metro and headed to Merdeka Square. I had actually been planning on visiting a mosque near there, but unfortunately it was under construction and so I decided to wander about the square. I took the train to Masjid Jamek station, which is also the name of the mosque that precedes Merdeka Square.

U-do is a little island off of an island. When we were in Jeju-do we decided to take a day trip to U-do and see what this little island had to offer. To get there we took a bus from Jeju City to the port and hopped on a ferry. The island’s name means cow, apparently it is shaped like one.
